Langley High School Crew was started in late 1992 by a group of interested and dedicated parents, students, and friends. It's first rowing season was in spring 1993. Since that time, the Saxon Crew team has risen to become one of the top high school rowing programs in Virginia and the nation.
During this current year, our Men's Junior eight placed fifth in the nation at the SRAA Championships. Last year our Women's Varsity Four placed second in the nation.
Since 2012 our athletes have captured 15 first-place trophies in the Virginia State Championships. Our well-coached athletes are now regularly recruited by top collegiate rowing programs in the United States.
The Langley Crew Team is a sanctioned club sport at Langley High School and is not financially supported by Fairfax County Public Schools or Langley High School. We are, however, a true Varsity sport in all other aspects. Crew athletes are eligible for Varsity letters and fall under the rules and regulations of Fairfax County Public Schools.
Crew is a spring season sport with regattas being held from late March through the end of May each year. Our boathouse and on-the-water practices are at the Sandy Run Regional Park in Occoquan, Virginia. And while most of our regattas are held at Sandy Run, we do travel to several prominent regattas each season - the most notable being the Stotesbury Cup Regatta on the Schuylkill River near Philadelphia and the SRAA Nationals Regatta (Nationals) which is held at a variety of locations.
While many of our top athletes row for local programs in the summer and fall, our official Langley Crew winter training starts in mid-November through the end of February. During this time our coaches will work with the athletes to build their cardiovascular conditioning and to impart basic rowing technique to the team. These practices involve time on our rowing ergs and are conducted largely at Langley High School.
The Langley Crew Team is supported by a strong cadre of parent-volunteers who run the Langley Crew Boosters Club. Becoming a LCBC volunteer is a great way to learn more about this great sport and gives you the opportunity to support your student-athlete in a meaningful way.
If you are considering giving competitive rowing a try, we invite you to check out Langley Crew. We have a strong and growing track record of developing strong athletes who not only regularly achieve stellar results on the water, but also develop bonds and friendships that can last a lifetime.
